Klänge erhorchen. Meine dreijährige Tochter und ich sitzen im Auto, um die knapp halbstündige Fahrt zur Großmutter anzutreten. Auf unseren gemeinsamen Autofahrten hören wir oft Musik, manchmal auch Pippi Langstrumpf und monatelang haben wir die Kinderlieder-CD „Fischaffenkakadu“ des Vocalensemble Lalá gehört. (Ich glaube, dass ist die CD, der ich bis jetzt am öftesten in meinem nicht klangarmen Leben gelauscht habe. Anna wollte es so und ich hatte keinen Grund mich zu wehren.) An diesem herbstlich nebeligen Montagmorgen schiebe ich das brandneu erschienene „Songbook“ von Harald Peterstorfer und Ali Angerer in den Player. Nicht nur ich, sondern auch Anna wird sofort ganz ruhig, um diese unendlich weiten Gesänge zu erhorchen, die die beiden Musiker in ihrem Liederbuch versammelt haben.
„Magical compositions & soundscapes“
ist der Untertitel ihres Albums und man kann dem nur zustimmen. Es sind zauberhaft, unaufdringlich aber unmittelbar zu Herz gehende Klanglandschaften. Sie erzählen von einem Schloss im Schnee, dem „Moon of a Forbidden Sky“, von Unglaublichem, Traumhaftem, von Anatolien und vom ersten Licht. Dass zwischen den Beiden eine musikalische Seelenverwandtschaft bestehen muss, ist jedem einzelnen Klang anzuhören. Singen tun sie beide auf ihren Instrumenten. Außergewöhnlich ist ihre instrumentale Kombination. Peterstorfer spielt Gitarre und Angerer Tuba. - Eine Verbindung, die man auf den ersten Blick nicht unbedingt zusammenbringen würde.

Aber es ist ganz herrlich wie die beiden Instrumente verschmelzen: Die Tuba singt und schleicht im nächsten Moment in einen sanften Bassgang, um der Gitarre das weite Klangfeld zu überlassen. „Papa, schau, da sind Schafe!“, unterbricht Anna kurz und dann hören wir gemeinsam weiter und weiter. „Volume 1“ verspricht ein zweites Liederbuch. Wir freuen uns auch auf dieses!

Harald Peterstorfer teams up with Ali Angerer on deeply beautiful 'Songbook'
There aren't too many albums that can provide entertainment as well as inner peace. On Songbook, Ali Angerer (tuba/hammered dulcimer) and Harald Peterstorfer (guitar) join artistic forces to brew a collection of deeply beautiful songs that bring comfort and joy to listeners.
The twelve original tracks connect to the emotions with sweet acoustic hooks. "Nightline" is among the more guitar-centered of the tunes on Songbook, showcasing the deft skills of Peterstorfer; his mastery of the instrument is very much evident. Like its title, it is perfectly suited for an evening stroll; the melodies are relaxing, spellbinding, and charismatic. It can be compared to a lullaby, singing you to a good night's sleep.
"Askim" is a Turkish word for friend or lover. It certainly fits the bill because the music from the cut shows care and love that can be dedicated to someone. Its music video of a boat journey also adds a dramatic effect on the song. It is hypnotizing and gorgeous.
"Traumline" unveils the stellar talents of both artists as their sharp knowledge and talent of the tuba and guitar shows that they are on a different level. There is also a video that can serve as a proof of their creative brilliance on their respective instruments.
Overall, the Songbook album is a collection of music that can be played everywhere but is most effective in an intimate setting.

Klassische Gitarre und Tuba, eine höchst erstaunliche Paarung. Wer sich davon überzeugen möchte, wie eloquent und leichtfüßig ein Bassbläser klingen kann, ist hier richtig. Angerer singt und tanzt sein Blech, während Peterstorfer mit warmem, großem Ton eine märchenhaft-entrückte Atmosphäre schafft, der man sich kaum entziehen kann, geschweige denn will.

Songbook is a stunning blend of fusion, ethnic folk, and jazz, going for a moody, textural, and lush vibe. These recordings are haunting and beautifully arranged, aiming for a diverse and elegant approach. The production is particularly tasteful: this is the sound of two people sitting together and performing, adding a really organic feel to the listening experience.
Ali Angerer strikes for the warmth and depth of his tuba tones, while Harald Peterstorfer can make even the most complex guitar phrasing deceptively simple. For these two talented gentlemen, it was never about a show off of technical skills. Although these tunes certainly are a testament to the world-class ability of these performers, the songs featured on this release boast a really emotional approach to musicianship, striking for its beautiful tones and heartfelt melodies.
There is something absolutely magical in a record that has such a small set of instruments, yet manages to reach so far deep into a listener's mind and heart.
